Character Day is motivation to get the children to read. Too often our children don’t see the benefits of reading for enjoyment as well as gaining access to different kinds of knowledge. We live in a technological world where the use of electronic devices is part of normal, everyday life. The love of reading a paperback / book has been replaced. We are trying to encourage the children to read every day. Everyone dressed up as a character from a book and they had to be able to tell other children who they were and what role their character played in the book. The children then went to other classes to read and discuss the books that they brought. This task was a huge success and we have been asked to do this more often.
“A child who reads, will be an adult who thinks.”
